HGTV/DIY Network Ultimate Retreat 2017

This week, Vermont Drone worked on an unique project for the cable channels, HGTV and DIY Network.

Vermont Drone worked closely with the show’s producers and director to make aerial footage and photography of a newly renovated home in Colchester, VT. We also shot intros and promos starring the show’s host Jason Cameron. Cameron is currently hosting Man Caves and Desperate Landscapes. He is also well known for his role on While You Were Out.

Later this year, HGTV and DIY Network plan to hold a sweepstakes to award the home they filmed as a grand prize in their “Ultimate Retreat Giveaway” sweepstakes. The two cable networks frequently partner on sweepstakes for showcase homes they built or renovated on their networks.

Vermont Drone’s footage will be used in the tv shows and commercials/promotions for them. We also made photographs which will be used by the networks for online and print advertisements for these shows and the sweepstakes.

“The location was very pretty but it was extremely challenging to film and photograph due to extensive tree cover and the extremely steep terrain,” said Mermelstein. “We literally couldn’t find a single flat spot wide enough for the drone to take off from or land. We decided to bring sandbags and fashioned them into a level landing/take off zone and then had to thread the needle through a very small opening in the tree canopy. Once over the tree canopy, we then had to keep evading a pair of upset hawks who presumably protecting a nest, fight the wind, gusts, and insanely strong updrafts which persisted throughout the day.” Mermelstein said, “All the challenges made it an incredibly fun project for us.”
